June holidays with a "more austere tourist": fewer trips, stays, and expenses

The Güemes and Flag holidays attracted more than 2 million tourists, 16.6% fewer than in 2024. Spending fell by 37.8%.

During the two long weekends in June , 2,162,750 tourists traveled, 16.6% fewer than in 2024, according to the Argentine Chamber of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (CAME). Regarding spending, it indicated that $412.372 billion was spent on food, beverages, lodging, transportation, recreation, and shopping, a 37.8% drop compared to the same year-over-year comparison, in real terms, that is, after adjusting for inflation.

"This reflects a more austere tourist population, who, while cutting back on recreational and commercial spending, their main adjustment was to reduce their stay ," the business entity noted. According to the survey, tourists this year had an average stay of 2.2 nights, compared to 2.9 nights last year, with one holiday added.

As in 2024, the holidays for Flag Day and the Day of the Immortality of Martín Miguel de Güemes were once again celebrated on separate weekends. The difference was the number of days, which was reduced from six to seven.

In Mendoza , hotel occupancy did not exceed 50% during the Güemes holiday, with low visitor numbers and limited commercial activity, especially in the downtown area, where many businesses decided not to open.

The CAME report highlighted that "although the economic context limited consumption in several destinations , there was a good response from local tourism ," with "peak occupancy" in cities hosting popular events. So far in 2025, five long weekends have already been held, attracting 8.8 million tourists, who generated $2,103,791,000.

"Although year-over-year comparisons show an adjustment in spending levels and average length of stay , the number of travelers continues to show a strong commitment to domestic tourism as a leisure and recreation option . This consolidates long weekends as a key tool for sustaining tourism during the low season," CAME explained.
